New Painting: “Portrait of Sherlock Holmes”

I just completed “Portrait of Sherlock Holmes” in time for the new Guy Ritchie film, “Sherlock Holmes,” with Robert Downey Jr. portraying the venerable detective. It is stimulating, exciting, and beautiful film to behold, and as a Sherlockian myself, I was quite impressed by the number of references to the canon Doyle books, and the quality of the characterization. While everyone raves about Jude Law portraying the most canon version of Watson on screen, Robert Downey Jr.’s performance is witty, fun, neurotic, grundgy, a little crazy, and charming.

A star-studded movie premiere that included AJ and Aly, Rachel Weisz, directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, Susan Sarandon, Saoirse Ronan, and others, on a rainy day in Hollywood, CA, on December 7, 2009 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater (an event that followed Robert Downey Jr’s hand/foot print ceremony at the same location).

Jessica Alba, Neil Patrick Harris, Eva Mendes, Chloe Sevigny, Sandra Oh, Christina Ricci, Shirley Manson, Rose McGowan, Pierce Brosnan, Kate Beckinsale, Gwen Stefani, Sharon Case, Eileen Davidson, Ciara, Diablo Cody, James Franco, Daisy Fuentes, and others attend the star-studded MOCA 30th Anniversary Gala at MOCA on Grand Ave. in downtown Los Angeles, featuring a one-of-a-kind performance by Lady Gaga, debuting “Speechless.”

Although Lady Gaga did not walk the red carpet, I had the immense fortune to run into her behind the scenes, and had a moment to appreciate her presence before she headed to her performance. Truly stunning and talented woman.
